Volume Profile Pro v1 (VPP)

A standard volume profile shows you where volume traded. Volume Profile Pro marks the levels that matter, today’s value, yesterday’s value and the POCs price hasn’t been back to, right on your price bars.

Overview

Volume Profile Pro is a price-chart study for thinkorswim built on the same volume-at-price engine as the standard Volume Profile. It reads each profile’s Point of Control, Value Area High and Value Area Low and plots them as dots on every bar, labels them, and tracks the last five prior POCs as POC Magnets that clear once price touches them. Two labels read the profile for you: where today’s value sits against the prior period’s, with a bias from Bullish to Bearish, and whether the profile is shaped P, D or b. Quarterly, yearly, quarter-to-date, year-to-date and custom date-and-time profiles join the standard periods.

The difference is that you no longer read levels off a histogram by eye. The levels are drawn where price trades, the first thin minutes of a period can be held back so an early POC doesn’t mislead you, and the study warns you when the chart hasn’t loaded enough history for the profile you chose. What’s left is a clean map of where the market agreed on price, and where it hasn’t been back to yet.

  POC and value area dots

  The current profile’s POC, VAH and VAL on every bar and in the label row, each in its own color, with a 70% value area by default. Watch value migrate through the session.

  5 POC Magnets

  The last five prior POCs as dashed lines. Hide each one once price touches it to keep only naked POCs, or keep them all as a recent POC map.

  Prior period VAH and VAL

  One switch draws the previous period’s value area edges across the current one, so you can tell balance from a test of new prices.

  Value label with a bias read

  Compares today’s value area with the prior period’s: Higher, Overlap Higher, Overlap, Inside, Outside, Overlap Lower or Lower, read as Bullish, Lean Bullish, Neutral, Lean Bearish or Bearish.

  Profile shape label

  Reads the profile as P, D or b from where the POC sits in its range: upper third, middle third or lower third.

  POC date bubbles

  A bubble at each profile’s POC shows its start and end, with times for minute, hour and custom profiles, plus its shape.

  Display delay

  Hide the levels, labels and bubble for the first N minutes of each period while early volume is too thin to trust. Off by default.

  Custom start in your own timezone

  Anchor a profile to the open or a news release. 0830 CST is the 9:30 ET cash open by default.

  4 touch alerts

  Price touched POC, VAH, VAL or a POC Magnet, each with its own sound. Each fires once per touch, not on every bar that keeps touching.

  Missing-history warning

  A yellow label when a QTD, YTD or custom profile starts before the chart’s first bar, or when a custom start time isn’t a real clock time.

  19 tunable inputs

  Defaults work out of the box, with a low 10% histogram opacity and global colors for every level and bias. Finished periods keep their final levels; only the current period’s levels move as new bars trade.
